The RM License system is a framework to establish a healthy community around the BF3: Reality Mod and to support players in having a uniform gameplay experience across RM servers. This Server License Agreement (SLA) is to be seen as part of that vision and should be actively supported by the License Holder Community itself. The SLA is subject to change and may be changed at any time by the RM Management to adjust to the needs of the players and the server owners alike.
The RM Management recognizes the difficulty in hosting and managing communities and their servers. As such we want to provide players and server owners with the appropriate tools to ensure quality servers across the board while also making server hosting accessible to as many communities as possible.
The goals the Licensing System aims to achieve are:
- Providing a consistent RM experience across all servers.
- Having a high quality, decentralized, community driven server setup.
- Ensuring a uniform understanding of what is expected by server owners.
- Enabling a direct communication line between the RM Management and the server owners.
- Highlighting licensed servers in the server browser
- Hosting from reliable hardware
- Having functional and dedicated server administration
When applying for a Server License you, the License Holder Representative, agree to the following conditions. Not adhering to these conditions will result in your Server License being revoked. These conditions are subject to change, as is the whole SLA.
All representatives, moderators and admins of the Server License Holder (Community) must:
- be at least 18 years old.
- adhere to the RM Server Admin Guidelines.
- keep all Server License Holder Representatives and Server Information up to date.
- be available for contact by the RM Management through the RM Discord Server Admin channels.
- install or update all mod files through the Venice Unleashed Mod Manager (VUMM).
- run only release builds from VUMM unless permission has been explicitly granted by the RM Management.
- keep the mod files up to date (Server Admins with access to the Server Administration section of the Forums / Discord will be notified of new releases and must update)
- update Venice Unleashed with every new update unless explicitly told otherwise by the RM Management.
- set the player count to be between 16 and 100.
- Server name should be prefixed by "[BF3:RM]" and followed by server region ([EU], [NA], [SA], [OC], [AF], [AS], [AN]). For example: "[BF3:RM] [EU] Awesome Community server, noob friendly #1"
- have a unique server name. If your community wishes to add another server it must be numbered (i.e. #1, #2 ). Keep in mind to apply for a new license.
- have a proper server description with contact information for the players. (Discord and/or Website)
- make players aware of server rules ingame, additionally they must be listed and updated on the RM Forums and optionally on the community's Discord Server.
- notify the RM Management whenever you are switching server hardware.
- make sure that the server framerate never falls below 100 FPS (except while it’s loading). Failure to host RM on sufficient hardware results in losing your license.
- make sure that the server internet speed is at least 30 Mbps up, 100 Mbps down or higher.
- use the mandatory VU launch arguments (list below)
All representatives, moderators and admins of the Server License Holder (Community) must not:
- have a bad reputation in server hosting for similar games.
- distribute the server files to third parties.
- alter the server files in any way.
- host the server with a personal server key instead of the provided one.
- run a licensed server protected with a password, unless explicitly allowed by the RM management.
- modify the gameplay using RCON commands unless whitelisted by the RM management.
- name your server as "official" to prevent confusion.
- run other mods alongside the provided ones.
- promote products, services, exploits or information that may be misleading.
- use any sort of bots or fake clients to boost player counts.
- intentionally use exploits, bugs or cause server crashes or other damages to your own and other servers / communities.
- allow or condone the usage of exploits, cheats or cracked game clients.
- link to or in other ways enable the usage of exploits, cheats or cracked game clients.
- in any way link donation to any ingame advantages or favorable treatment by admins.

Note that the casing should be the same:
- skipChecksum
- highResTerrain
- debuglog (This saves the server logs in files, useful for reporting errors. Path is in %USERPROFILE%\Documents\Battlefield 3\Server\logs)

Yes, you can use your license if you break the rules mentioned above. Keep in mind you are also responsible for the Moderation on your Server and can lose your License for these issues:
- Breaking any of the conditions above
- Not conforming to the RM Server Admin Guidelines, especially:
- Lack of Administration
- Abuse of Administration Powers
- Threatening behavior / Abuse towards Players
If your Server runs on your own hardware please keep in mind that Server Health may suffer under poor hardware. It is your responsibility to ensure it is working properly.
Be aware that once we have issued a license we will work with License Holders if issues arise. Revoking a License is a last resort or used if rules are seriously violated. We will consider the circumstances and work on a case by case basis if that occurs.
If your License is revoked you will be contacted by the RM Team with a reason why and further steps.
Currently the RM mod is not ready to be publicly distributed for a number of reasons. Please keep in mind that during our first release we will limit the number of Licenses because of this. Until this happens, we cannot offer private (password protected / unlicensed) servers for security reasons.
If you applied for a license, but got denied, please ensure you fulfill all requirements before applying again. A reason for denial of a license might not be communicated, however, you will be informed whether your application was granted or denied.
Please keep in mind that during launch we will prioritize larger and well known communities with good reputation across the board, until the mod is ready to be publicly distributed.
Upon being granted a Server License the License Holder Representative (the main contact person who also applied) will be responsible for managing their Server License. They will also be held responsible for all acts of administration and moderation by their staff on their server as well as on other platforms.
The RM Management highly recommends to only employ trusted moderators and admins. All moderators and admins must adhere to the RM Server Administration Guidelines. Failure to do so results in your license being revoked.
The License Holder is allowed to name two more Administrators who will also get access to the Server Administration section of the Forums / Discord in addition to the License Holder Representative.

By becoming a License Holder you are agreeing to the RM Server License Agreement as well as the RM Server Admin Guidelines.
This document serves to guide and help License Holders and their communities in administrating their servers as well as inform players about common rules.
All Licensed Servers must adhere to these guidelines in order to maintain their license.
- Admins are present at all times to enforce the Server Rules. They should promote teamwork and communication through the Server Rules / Policies as well as their actions in game for the benefit of all players
- Admins / Rules should encourage fairness and sportsmanship while mediating between players.
- Admins and their communities should ensure that they are behaving in a reasonable and respectful manner.
- Any racist, sexist, homophobic, discriminatory, hateful or grossly offensive behaviour / content by them in their server will be acted upon.
- Admins are encouraged to act on such behaviour by other players accordingly.
- Admins are allowed to remove players that are threatening the integrity of teamwork and communication on the server and the server rules. As such they are allowed to remove players without microphones.
- Admins are allowed to enforce a rule disallowing locked squads. This should clearly be stated in the Server Rules and in game.
- Squad Leaders are free to kick players from their Squad for any reason.
- Admins are only allowed to enforce rules that are valid for everyone on the Server, including the Admins.
- Admins are free to kick or ban players to protect the integrity of their community or their Server as long as it is not in violation of the Server Guidelines. Sufficient evidence or reasoning is needed for banning a particular group of players (Blanket bans).
- Server Administration Rules should be visible to players in game and listed on the communities RM Forum site or Discord.
- Servers may choose a single language although it is not required. If a language is selected it must be visible in the Server Name.
- Servers need to have a minimum of 6 Admins per Server. They need to be active during most of the populated hours.
- Licensed Servers need to notify the RM Team if they switch their hardware or server provider.
- Licensed Servers must state how players should behave on the server and how to appeal a kick / ban. This should both be visible in game and on the communities RM Forum site / Discord.
- Licensed Servers must at all times follow the RM Server License Agreement.
- If a Licensed Server is breaching any of these guidelines it is subject to lose their License.
Please contact the RM team on the RM Forum or Discord to report Servers breaching these Guidelines. Provide sufficient evidence (pictures, chat logs, videos) with your report.
